Kingston Khoo, the founder and president of Eco-STEPS (Sustainable Tourism & Environmental Protection Society) Malaysia, has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Technology Management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and is a licensed tourist guide in Malaysia. His passion for sustainable tourism has driven him to become a strong advocate for promoting the preservation and conservation of Malaysia's rich natural and cultural heritage.
He is currently the Group Head of Marketing & E-Commerce at one of Malaysia’s leading hotels and resorts group, which he has been a part of for the last 6 years. With more than a decade of experience as a product manager for one of Malaysia's leading DMCs, Kingston has developed a deep understanding of the significance and advantages of sustainable and responsible practices in enriching a traveler's experience.
His expertise lies in his ability to recognize the importance of sustainable tourism in preserving Malaysia's environment and its communities. Kingston has been actively involved in nature and community-based NGOs since 1999 and takes every opportunity to explore Malaysia's rainforests.
Water Boy?
Bruce is a Water Enthusiast: Whether it's to drink, process, disinfect, heat, swim in (and under), sail, paddle or motor on, or conserve, water is his thing.
Originally from New Zealand, Bruce is a business owner in Malaysia. His company Beribu Jaya focuses on recreational water (swimming pools) in Kuala Lumpur. Giving a nod to the S in ESG he has a company policy of only employing Malaysians.
His other company is process water related providing solutions for water filtration, water disinfection, laundry water optimisation and online monitoring
In and around Malaysia for 20 years Bruce has organised and participated in Marine Conservation events in Pulau Regang and Pulau Tioman.
He is delighted to be part of Eco-Steps and the journey toward sustainable tourism in this wonderful country of Malaysia.
Jean has a career that spans 20 years’ of commercial experience in multinational FMCG companies.
Being a curious learner and having a strong desire to master different skills, she took a variety of roles in Sales and Marketing as well as commercial roles in Nestle Malaysia Sdn Bhd which contributed to her strong problem-solving skills and stake holder management competencies.
She has led and participated multiple transformation and change management projects during her career in Nestle. She strongly believes in continuous improvement (kaizen) and champions change that can increase efficiency, effectiveness, and a growth mindset in an organization.
She is familiar with the complexities of managing stakeholders in a multinational corporate environment and the intricacies of decision making at senior management level. This is imperative especially in implementing new initiatives and significant changes (work processes, structural/role change, trading policies, etc) in an organization.
Graduated from UPM in 1999 with a Bachelor’s in Science, Physics, she is passionate about mindful living and thus, a strong advocate of the 3R (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle). She is delighted to be part of the Eco-Steps family and to be one of the contributors in championing sustainable tourism.
Fernando Fong is a seasoned journalist with over 18 years of experience across various subjects. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling, he has made a name by consistently delivering compelling, impactful stories that resonate with audiences.
Fong began his journalism career in 2010 and has since worked with several prominent Malaysian media outlets, including The Star, New Straits Times (NST), and Malay Mail. Currently, he is a journalist at The Rakyat Post, where he continues to produce high-quality content.
Throughout his career, Fong has demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental journalism, with a particular focus on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) matters. His in-depth knowledge and understanding of the complex interplay between business, society, and the environment have allowed him to provide insightful and thought-provoking coverage of some of the most pressing issues of our time.
As a skilled communicator, Fong has a proven track record of translating complex environmental topics into engaging and accessible stories that inspire action and drive change. His ability to bridge the gap between scientific research and public understanding has raised awareness about the urgent need for sustainable practices and responsible corporate behaviour.

Introducing Daniyal, a seasoned hospitality professional with an impressive career spanning nearly two decades. His journey boasts a diverse range of roles across esteemed properties in Malaysia, including renowned brands such as Hilton, Starwood, Marriott, and his current position as Hotel Manager at The RuMa Hotel & Residences. Driven by an unwavering passion for excellence, Daniyal consistently demonstrates his dedication to his craft.
With a Master of International Hospitality Management from Toulouse University, France, Daniyal brings a wealth of academic knowledge to complement his extensive practical experience. Additionally, Daniyal plays a significant role in the education sector by bridging the gap between industry practices and academic curriculum. He serves as an industry panel advisor for institutions such as Taylor University, City University, and Politeknik Metro Kuala Lumpur. Furthermore, he holds a position on the board committee of the Malaysia Hotels Association KL Chapter.
Passionate about sustainability, Daniyal has obtained the GSTC certification for The RuMa Hotel & Residences Kuala Lumpur, making it the first hotel in Peninsular Malaysia to achieve this recognition. This accomplishment underscores his dedication to driving positive change within the hospitality industry. With his unique blend of expertise, passion, and commitment to sustainability, Daniyal is poised to make a transformative impact on the success of the Eco-Step organization.
Pino Choong, the newest member of the Eco-steps team, brings a wealth of experience with 15 years in the travel industry, including roles in outbound travel agencies, inbound DMC wholesaler, and OTA companies. Her lifelong love for travel is matched only by her deep-rooted commitment to sustainable practices.
Actively participating in events such as zero waste festivals and other relevant sustainability initiatives, Pino volunteers her time to contribute to environmental causes. She also practices recycling at home, ensuring responsible disposal by personally sorting and delivering recyclable products to recycling centers. Currently in the process of obtaining the Train the Trainer (TTT) program, Pino is on her way to becoming a certified trainer for Eco-steps, specializing in tourism sustainability.
Pino's overarching mission is to educate and empower professionals in the tourism industry to embrace sustainable practices. Her vision extends to creating innovative packages that not only highlight the charm of local destinations but also contribute to generating income crucial for the sustainable development of local communities. In her current role as the Hotel Contracting Manager for Malaysia & Singapore at Asian Trails, Pino continues to leverage her extensive industry experience to foster sustainable partnerships within the hospitality sector.
Chua Eng Han has been in the tourism industry as a licensed tourist guide for the English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay speaking markets since 1994. He is a pioneer trainer for the Tourist Guide CTRE programs in Malaysia. He trains on topics such as Communication Skills, Personal Development, Personal Branding, The Art of Handling Tourists, etc.
He is also a certified trainer under the Eco Host Program. As a Certified Trainer with JPK and an ASEAN National Assessor on F&B, he is the examiner for the professional tourist guide examination organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
He is also often invited as the professional industry expert representing the tourism industry by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) for drafting the tourist guide National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) syllabus and also a tourism panelist for technique and vocational training under the Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) certification system. He has written a book entitled “Professional Manual for Tourist Guides”, the first book specifically for tourist guides in Malaysia.
His goal in teaching is to design an approach for the purpose of grooming a student/participant, rather than merely teaching a syllabus. The power of critical thinking and creativity are basic to the methodology he uses in transferring understanding.
Vincent holds a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from University of Southern Queensland, Australia; he has his share of rocky adventures in the hospitality, tourism and travel industry. Started his hospitality career in Food & Beverage in his early days and went into Sales & Marketing due to his never-ending curiosity and appetite for knowledge as a new comer in the industry.
He has worked in established brands like Sunway Hotels & Resorts, Equatorial Group, Cititel Hotels, Best Western Premier, Legoland Malaysia and Expedia. Vincent’s last placement was with Vouk Hotel Management and EM3 Consultancy as Business Development Director for the past 4 years prior joining Golden Peak Hospitality & Consultancy Sdn Bhd.
Rapid changes and challenging business ideas has always been his passion for growth. This has been an essence of success in his career and life as a father of three. He always believe that the mind-set is the biggest asset and through positive and good daily mind set exercise, anyone can achieve its full potential.
He brings real life experience leading a multi-disciplinary team while delivering actionable solutions in the form of sales and marketing, customer service, analytics, segmentation and insights that produces proven results to the organization he worked with throughout his career.
Additionally, one of his strengths is to be able to identify, exploit, take advantage of, and fully develop any business development opportunities that yield positive solution. With his previous employment, he constantly exceeded goals, and he was valued for his ability to deal with complex situations by coming up with unique and fresh ideas.
